Here are some extracts from our main Homestay Provider's Student Manual:
Home-Sweet-Homestay
ホームステイはただの宿泊施設ではありません: we want our students integrating and involving themselves with their Canadian hosts, to get the most out of the Homestay and language learning experience.
How do we do it?
HSH only uses families who take a genuine joy and interest in doing Homestay; in learning about you: your culture, your interests, and who you are. Our Coordinators have one criterion when visiting a potential Homestay applying to our program: "would you want your son/daughter to stay in this Homestay for a month?" Homestay has to be good enough for our own families if it's to be good enough for you.
Your family will provide you three meals a day (our "open fridge" policy means you can snack anytime you like) a comfortable private ro盻m with a desk and study lamp (in addition to the usual bedroom furniture), towels, and linens. You'll be impressed by the friendliness and warmth Canadians have become renown for. Your personal HSH Coordinator is there for you from start to finish and always available to make sure you are enjoying your Homestay experience to its fullest.
HSH is the only company in Canada that guarantees your Homestay family is 100% fluent in English, as their native language.
HSH families are selected extremely carefully; less than ? of interviewed families are finally chosen for our program.

Private Rooms in houses or apartments out of the downtown area are also available. This is an excellent option if you are looking for more privacy or those who wish to live with other Canadians without the constraints of Homestay. Rooms are available in several areas of the city, most within 30 minutes of downtown. Rooms may be shared or single usually with a communal kitchen area for food preparation, a living room and either a shared or private washroom. This option does not includ盻 meals / board.
Because it does not include meals, its price is lower than Homestay. Students must make a budget for food preparation and eating out in restaurants.

- Students are charged according to a per night basis (not per day).
- Airport Reception (pick up) fee is free and included with the Placement fee for Homestay. For Rooming it is not included. It costs from $60 to $80 depending on the arrival time (evenings are $80).
- Airport drop-off fee is non-refundable after student arrival in Canada, even if the service is declined. It costs $30. It is charged with the first month of Homestay.
- Arrival information including airline, flight, date and time must be received at least 72 hours before arrival. Otherwise Airport Reception fee will be charged.
- Short-term students staying for less than 1 month will be charged Airport Reception and drop-off fee ($80).
- Students who opt to leave the Homestay or room before the end of their reserved accommodation term will not receive airport drop-off service.
- Student Homestay extensions of more than one week beyond the period reserved on their application are subject to a $110 extension fee. This fee will not apply if students extend within 1 week of their arrival date in Canada and as long as the same family is still available.
- Postponements or delays of arrival greater than one week, with less than 10 days notice before scheduled arrival, will result in the loss of the original placement fee (i.e. students must pay a second placement fee), and loss of guarantee of the original family reservation.
- In the event of changed or delayed flight time on the day of arrival, the student is responsible to contact their Accommodation Coordinator directly, inlingua Vancouver as well as their family, to inform them of the change. - Changes in Accommodation are addressed on an individual basis. We always try to please students and at the same time help them to understand cultural differences and house rules that can be logically accepted without the need for a change.
Some students prefer to live in apartments in downtown Vancouver. They usually rent a furnished place with 2 or 3 students who are staying in Vancouver around the same time and dates. They share all expenses and responsibility for the furniture, appliances and bills. Students themselves find these apartments. Inlingua does not get involved in any arrangement and can not guarantee anything.
Staying at a Homestay or Rooming will provide you with 盻 nice and convenient place to temporarily live if you plan to share an apartment in downtown with other students. So for 1 month or two while you look for your independent apartment, you can learn of Canadian culture and practice your English by living in a Homestay or Rooming.
