English LessonsOur English courses are made up of English Lessons. Some English Lessons at inlingua Vancouver focus on speaking with our method and use exclusive books and CDs for homework. Other English Lessons prepare for the TOEFL or Cambridge tests. Some English Lessons focus on skills like speaking or grammar, or concentrate on business or current events. Semi Private Lessons focus on conversation and are given in small groups.Each of the English Courses offered at inlingua Vancouver is made up of English Lessons. Not all English Lessons are included in all English Courses. Please see the descriptions of the Super Intensive, Intensive and Semi Intensive English courses for a detailed explanation of each one.
In other words, all of the types of English Lessons are component parts of our Full Time and Part Time English courses that we offer at inlingua Vancouver. After students have chosen from the English Lessons listed above (and described in more detail below), they can choose an English course of study at inlingua such as Intensive English course, Super Intensive English course, Semi Intensive English course AM, Semi Intensive English course PM, TOEFL iBT Preparation course, Cambridge FCE Preparation course, Cambridge CAE Preparation course, or Business English course. You will register in an English course of study that includes one, two or more of the English Lessons described in detail below. inlingua Speaking LessonsIn inlingua Vancouver's Speaking Lessons, students learn how to speak English in a fun, effective and practical way. These English Lessons are from Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM (noon). In these lessons, we use the inlingua method

In the inlingua Speaking lessons, there are 10 Levels. All general English courses are offered in 10 (ten) levels from beginner to advanced plus
Duration 4 weeks per level Each level lasts 4 weeks. Students can join these lessons any Monday. Every 4 weeks there is a major intake day so new students who start their courses on these dates will study all 4 weeks of the level. These lessons are included in the Intensive English course, Super Intensive English course and Semi Intensive English course AM. Our Full time courses, Intensive course and Super Intensive course include a combination of inlingua Speaking lessons in the morning and one or two elective lessons in the afternoon. Elective Lessonsinlingua Vancouver offers a very wide range of English Elective lessons in the afternoon for students to choose based on topics, such as current events or business, or English skill functions, such as listening, pronunciation, grammar or writing. Students choose their Elective lessons depending on their level of English, their needs and their skills. Teachers will suggest elective lessons to students at the end of each level. Elective lessons are from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM and from 2:40 PM to 4:00 PM. Some elective lessons are offered only at 1:00 PM, others only at 2:40 PM, and others both at 1:00 PM and at 2:40 PM. Elective lessons last 4 or 8 weeks. Students can change to a different Elective every 4 weeks if they want to cover different areas of the English language. These lessons are included in the Intensive English course, Super Intensive English course and Semi Intensive English course PM. However, Semi Private lessons are offered only at 2:40 PM with the Super Intensive English course and the Semi Intensive English course PM. Speaking inlinguaContinue to improve your speaking skills in our inlingua lessons in the afternoon. Main skill: Speaking. Other skills: Vocabulary, Slang, Idioms, Listening comprehension. Depending on your level of English you will join one of our classes divided by levels. With theme based lessons, students cover useful structures, dialogues and relative vocabulary. Students will get a lot of practice. Debate, role-play, fun activities and small discussion groups are part of the class. For all levels, from 1A to 5B. Grammar Plus (Say it right!)Check your grammar and do a lot of practice exercises plus use the new grammar to speak about interesting and exciting things. Join this class if you want to speak English correctly and fluently. For levels 2A to 3A. English Brush Up! (Grammar for beginner and low intermediate levels)This course refreshes basic English skills. Learners with basic knowledge in English are able to review basic grammatical structures and basic vocabulary. These areas have often become passive and can be activated and practiced with English Brush Up. For levels 1A to 2B. ILT - Interactive Listening Tech. (Listening in the computer lab)This is a fast-paced class focusing equally on both listening and speech training skills. It uses up-to-date methods of exploring news / weather / comedy / science / music / TV & movies. Listening skills are challenged by genuine media and improved through drilled speech and reading practice. As students learn to speak as a native speaker, they become better equipped to understand native speech when they hear it. There are regular homework assignments. There are two steps. Step 1 at the Gastown campus and Step 2 at the Granville Campus. For levels 2A to 5B. Amazing Listening (Listening in the classroom)This class is about putting your listening skills to the test. The class uses music, videos and other realia to challenge the student's listening abilities and stimulate conversation. The class de-emphasizes repetition to help student cope with real-life situation where they will not get more than two or three chances to listen and understand. As weeks go by the difficulty increases. Sitcoms like "Friends" and dramas like "Desperate Housewives" are mixed in with all genres of music and other listening related materials. For levels 3A to 5B. PronunciationDo you want to sound like a native speaker? This class will correct your pronunciation of both vowels and consonants in English, and also teach you the rhythm and stress in words and sentences. Students will learn basic rhythm rules, weak sounds, linking, special intonation, and the proper use of contractions. Classes include reading out loud to isolate and practice problem sounds. For levels 2A to 3B. Fluency & AccuracyThis course has been designed for upper intermediate and advanced ESL students who are hoping to become more fluent and accurate through a rigorous review of problematic grammar structures. Through daily articles, students are exposed to grammar and vocabulary structures in context. Techniques to improve vocabulary retention are covered. Students need to participate in discussions. For levels 3A to 5B. WritingImprove your writing skills in this dynamic and interactive class. Lots of exercises and practice will help you write better. Join this class if you want to write English correctly and with the right style. Current AffairsThis course has been designed for advanced ESL students who are hoping to become more fluent and comfortable with speaking English. The course's primary focus is on vocabulary. Readings & discussions are the two main activities; however, other media such as local newspapers, television shows and films are also incorporated. Students improve their reading comprehension and oral communication through a diverse range of activities relating to current events. For levels 3A to 5B. Fluency through NarrativeA huge amount of conversation and discussion consists of story-telling. In formal and informal settings, story-telling (narrative) is used to get your point across, to convince somebody of something or to make somebody laugh. What are the rules of story-telling? In the Fluency through Narrative class, students will focus on the different aspects of telling stories about their lives as well as stories from important writers from around the world. Once a week we have a book report based on a short English novel of your choosing and the rest of the week we use stories as a spring-board into discussion. For levels 3A to 5B. Business ModulesThese lessons are the complement to the full time Business English course. Topics include: Business Presentations / Telephone Skills / Meetings / Negotiations / Interviews/ Socializing Across Cultures / Business Correspondence / Finance / Marketing / Interviews. Note: inlingua books are required. For levels 3A to 4B. Introduction to TOEFL iBTTake this 4-week course that will prepare you to take the complete full time course. In the course you will practice the integrated skills - speaking, grammar, writing, listening and reading. There are also vocabulary and pronunciation activities. Several books and worksheets are used in the class. For levels 3A to 4B. Test Preparation Lessons(in full time test preparation courses) TOEFL iBT LessonsThese lessons are included in the TOEFL iBT Preparation course. Lessons are from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM. They can be taken for 4, 8 or 12 weeks.These lessons are ideal for students who need a high score on the TOEFL iBT test or want to improve their English language skills in a very structured and dynamic English course. In these lessons, students will build their self-confidence to write the new generation TOEFL iBT. Students will enhance their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills with tons of practice exercises and speaking activities in a native speaking environment. There is daily practice with mini-tests covering the different sections of the official test in our state-of-the-art computer lab with the help of our professional instructors. Cambridge First Certificate in English (FCE)These lessons are included in the Cambridge FCE (First Certificate) Preparation course. Lessons are from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM. The Cambridge FCE complete course lasts 9 or 13 weeks and the Examination is taken at the end. These lessons are for very serious students. The FCE Test is taken at the end. inlingua Vancouver is an FCE Testing Centre. Students can join the course until the 3rd week and must register for the remainder of the session and the test at the end. Students in these lessons will also improve their English language skills in a very structured and dynamic English course. These lessons will develop the language skills required to pass the FCE exam. Students will do a lot of interesting and engaging language activities to build self-confidence to write the test successfully. There are lots of practice exercises to perfect your language and practice tests are included on a regular basis to get ready for the exam. These lessons are for students in upper intermediate level. Cambridge Advanced Examination (CAE)These lessons are included in the Cambridge CAE (Certificate in Advanced English) Preparation course. Lessons are from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM. The CAE complete course lasts 9 or 13 weeks and the Examination is taken at the end. These lessons are for very serious and advanced students. The CAE Test is taken at the end. inlingua Vancouver is a CAE Testing Centre. Students can join the course until the 3rd week and must register for the remainder of the session and the test at the end. Students in these lessons will also improve their English language skills in a very structured and dynamic English course. These lessons will develop the language skills required to pass the CAE exam. Students will do a lot of interesting and engaging language activities to build self-confidence to write the test successfully. There are lots of practice exercises to perfect your language and practice tests are included on a regular basis to get ready for the exam. These lessons are for students in the advanced levels. Business English LessonsThese lessons are included in the Business English course. Lessons are from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM. There are 4 terms of 4 weeks each leading to diploma certificates: Intermediate Business Diploma (Month 1), Pre-Advanced Diploma (Month 2), Advanced Business Diploma (Month 3) and Advanced Plus Business Diploma (Month 4). These lessons are ideal for students who want to improve their Business English language skills in a very structured and dynamic English course. In the morning, the Business English course uses the inlingua APP 3 Level materials for the first two months. These materials use the same grammar and vocabulary as in our morning Speaking lessons, but with a business focus. In Month 3 and Month 4, morning lessons will include materials from Market Leader and supplementary Business English materials. In the afternoon, Business English students of all levels will use the inlingua Business Modules covering the following topics: Business Communication, Socializing across cultures, Business Management, Negotiations, Finance, Marketing and advertising. In the business English lessons students will improve their English to sound more professional at a job interview and in their current position. Students will explore the corporate world and get an understanding of the key areas of modern business practices. These lessons are for upper intermediate to advanced level students. English for WorkThis course is for people who are entering a competitive workforce where English is needed for success. Topics include job interview preparation, resumes and cover letters and useful language for the workplace. Learn the language you need to get the job. Then learn the expressions you’ll need to keep your job and get promoted. For levels 2B to 4B. Business Presentations & MeetingsMany speakers get nervous before talking in front of a business audience. But that’s because they don’t know the specific language and habits of successful speakers. This course will teach you all the English expressions you need to be confident when giving a professional presentation or actively participating in a business meeting. After you take this course, you will be able to give presentations and speak at meetings using English with confidence. For levels 2B to 4B. Semi Private LessonsIn small groups of 2 to 6 students, students review grammar and vocabulary that they have already been introduced to and some new ideas. These lessons contain a specific topic or focus as well as specific vocabulary and grammar structures but are not as structured as the inlingua morning lessons. Various materials and approaches are used to promote participation and improvement. These lessons provide a more relaxed environment and students can receive more attention from the teacher. Semi Private lessons are offered only at 2:40 PM with the Super Intensive English course and the Semi Intensive English course PM. For all levels, from 1A to 5B. Private LessonsPrivate Lessons are 45 minutes long each and it is suggested that they be offered in blocks of 2 lessons per session (90 minutes). It is estimated that with 40 Private Lessons a student will cover one inlingua Level. The most intensive course is based on 8 private lessons per day, 5 days per week, taking the private lessons from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Hard working students can advance up to 1 level per week or as quickly as they wish in a specially tailored English course. It is possible to combine Private lessons with a Full Time or Part Time English course and benefit from both the dynamic of a group and the personalized attention of a private lesson. Two common combinations are:
inlingua Online Learninginlingua Online Learning is a flexible system that complements inlingua regular lessons. Students can use the system at their own pace and contact their online teacher for support. It includes a wide range of grammar, reading and listening exercises.
